The Story

I turned down the salary
and took the risk.

I didn't get into real estate because I had a plan. In college, I spotted a job posting for a real estate assistant. My brother Austin and I had been talking about investing ever since we read Rich Dad Poor Dad together, so I took the job to learn from the inside. While working as an assistant, I got licensed. Started hosting open houses. Slowly took on more.

When I graduated, my broker offered me a salaried position. Before I answered, I asked him one question: did he believe I could make six figures as a full-time Realtor? He said yes. I turned down the salary and took the bet on myself.

2007 was humbling; three homes sold, that was it. 2008 felt like a breakthrough until it wasn't. Eight homes under contract in a single month, then the financial crisis hit and every deal collapsed overnight. A foreclosure company offered me $65k a year. On the drive home, something stopped me: if I was willing to give that commitment to someone else's company, why wouldn't I give it to myself? I turned the job down and never looked back.

Austin and I weren't just brothers; we were building together. We had started ANG Real Estate, named after both of us, with a shared vision of what we could create side by side.

Then I lost him. Austin died by suicide. There are no clean words for what that does to a person, to a family, to a future you had mapped out with someone who was supposed to be in it. It changed everything about why I build. It's why I mentor agents the way I do. It's why time freedom isn't a tagline. Mental health awareness isn't a side cause; it's woven into the foundation of how I operate.

After Austin passed, Heather and I made a decision: we weren't going to let what we started die with him. We began investing in rental properties in his honor and named the portfolio 418 Rentals, a nod to Austin's birthday, April 18th. Every property we add is a piece of what he and I were always going to build together.

When our youngest daughter was born, we gave her the middle name Nicole, making her Aubree Nicole Good. Her initials are ANG. The same initials Austin and I had put on the companies we were building together. He's in the foundation of everything.

"Twenty-two years in. Six businesses. One mission. Time freedom, lasting wealth, and a legacy worth leaving, that's not a tagline. It's a promise I made to Austin."
