I Spent 12 Years at Keller Williams. Here Is Why I Left and What I Found on the Other Side.

Leaving KW after 12 years was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made. If it is not broke do not fix it. That was my mindset. Here is what changed and what I found when I finally made the move.
I Spent 12 Years at Keller Williams. Here Is Why I Left and What I Found on the Other Side.
Let me be straight with you before I say anything else.
I was not looking to leave Keller Williams. I was not unhappy. I was not struggling. I had built something real over 12 years, a team, a reputation, a business that was producing. My mindset at the time was simple: if it is not broke, do not fix it.
That is exactly why leaving was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made in my career.
I am not writing this to sell you on eXp. I am writing this because I was the skeptical agent. I was the guy who had heard the pitch and dismissed it. I was the guy who told himself that loyalty and familiarity were worth more than an opportunity I had not fully understood yet.
If that sounds like you right now, this post is for you.
WHY I STARTED LOOKING
It did not happen overnight. It was a slow build.
The more I analyzed eXp, the more I started seeing Keller Williams differently. Not as a bad brokerage, it is not a bad brokerage. But as a team leader who had taken on a real responsibility to partner with agents and help them assess and win in any market, I started asking myself a question I could not stop thinking about.
Was I giving my agents the same financial pathways I had access to?
At KW, the honest answer was no. I had the opportunities. I had built the model. But my agent partners, the people I had recruited, trained, and committed to, were not getting the same shot at the financial upside that I had. The wealth-building model at KW was structured in a way where the team leader captured the opportunity and the agents worked within it.
That bothered me more the longer I sat with it.
At eXp, every agent who joins has access to the same financial pathways I have. Revenue share. Stock awards. The ICON program. The wealth-building model is not reserved for team leaders or top producers. It is available to every agent from day one.
That became the primary reason we left after 12 years. Not the split. Not the cap. Not a bad experience at KW. It was the realization that I could not look my agent partners in the eye and tell them I was giving them everything I had access to, because I was not.
THE MOMENT I MADE THE DECISION
There is always a period of the unknown when you make a move like this. You ask yourself whether it is the right decision or the wrong one. You ask whether it is going to help your business or hurt it.
What I had to keep coming back to was this: my business is going to grow because of me. Because of the work I put in. Because of the partnerships I build. Because of the belief I have in what I do. No brokerage is going to take that away from me. But a brokerage can either enhance the connections and relationships I am trying to build, or it can limit them.
I made the call. We moved.
WHAT SURPRISED ME WHEN I GOT TO EXP
I want to be specific here because I think this is where most agents who have not made the move do not fully understand what they are getting.
The broker support at eXp still blows my mind.
I can get a broker on the phone, on email, or in the eXp virtual world fast. Not in 24 hours. Not after a callback that may or may not come. Fast. The level of support available to every agent at eXp, regardless of production level, regardless of team size, is something I did not fully appreciate until I was inside it.
Think about what the alternative looks like. You are at a small brick and mortar brokerage. You have a question that needs an answer today. You wait. Maybe you get a callback in a few hours. Maybe it is tomorrow. In a transaction that is moving quickly, that wait costs you.
I do not have that problem anymore.
THE OTHER THING NOBODY TALKS ABOUT
The collaboration at eXp is unlike anything I experienced in 12 years at KW.
I do not say that to criticize KW culture, KW has a strong culture. But the sharing and collaboration that happens across eXp nationally, across markets, across teams, is something that did not exist at that level in the market center model.
When I have a question, I have access to thousands of agents across the country who have faced the same situation. When I want to know what is working in another market, I can find out. When I want to connect my agents with people who are solving the same problems they are solving, that network is there.
Business has gone up. The collaboration and sharing at eXp is second to none.
THE HONEST TRUTH ABOUT MAKING THE MOVE
If you are at KW right now and you are asking yourself whether this is worth looking at seriously, here is what I will tell you.
Your business is going to grow because of you. Not because of the sign on the door. Not because of the brokerage name on your business card. Because of you, the relationships you build, and the belief you have in what you do.
The question is not whether you can succeed at KW. You probably can. The question is whether the model you are in is giving your agents, and you, every financial pathway available. Whether the support system you have access to is as fast and as deep as it should be. Whether the collaboration you are part of is as wide as it could be.
Those were the questions I could not stop asking after 12 years.

I was the skeptical agent. I waited longer than I probably should have. I am not telling you what to do. I am just telling you what I found when I finally looked.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why did Nick Good leave Keller Williams after 12 years?+
Nick Good left Keller Williams after 12 years primarily because eXp Realty gave his agent partners access to the same financial pathways he had, revenue share, stock awards, and wealth-building opportunities. At KW those opportunities were available to team leaders but not equally accessible to agent partners. That gap became the primary reason for making the move.
Is eXp Realty better than Keller Williams for team leaders?+
For team leaders who want to give their agents the same financial upside they have access to, eXp Realty offers a more equitable model. Every eXp agent has access to revenue share, stock awards, and the ICON program regardless of whether they are on a team or independent. At KW wealth-building opportunities are structured differently and are not equally available to all agents.
What surprised Nick Good most about eXp Realty after leaving KW?+
The broker support system. At eXp agents can reach a broker by phone, email, or in the eXp virtual world quickly without waiting hours or days for a callback. For agents used to waiting at a brick and mortar brokerage, the speed and accessibility of broker support at eXp is a significant operational advantage.
Should I leave Keller Williams for eXp Realty?+
That decision depends on what you want your business model to look like. If you want your agent partners to have access to the same financial pathways you do, faster broker support, national collaboration, and income beyond the commission check, eXp is worth a serious look. How does eXp Realty revenue share compare to KW profit share?+
eXp revenue share is paid from eXp's company dollar when agents you sponsor close transactions, not from the agent's commission. KW profit share is paid from market center profits and varies by location. eXp revenue share is consistent nationally and continues as long as you hold an active license.
